Up Next...

Quiet hot weekend.  Putting together a newsletter, coming soon, planning the new bathroom remodel, company for lunch and dinner and in between a bit of sewing.  Gradually moving toward fall and my goal to hit the refresh button on my everyday clothes.  Next project is Katherine's new pants, Vogue 8837 in our Forest Service stretch woven.  The pattern says for knits only, but it helps to live with the source!  Following Katherine's advise I cut the pants (eliminated the cuff): add 1" at the side seams and waistline to allow 'insurance' for fitting.

Cut and partially sewn....
moving toward the greens for fall.

Now, I'm looking for the right fabric for Katherine's blouse,Vogue 8834 In this case, the pattern calls for a stretch woven, (I'm considering a lightweight ponte)...

Love the shaping of the back.

...and an important consideration is that both sides of the fabric will show when the collar turns back.
Katherine says she wants to make a version and wear it as a little jacket...good idea!

  2. Hey Marcy, I too loved your interview with Shams. Your generosity and thoughtfulness shine through!

Also am loving your new blog, and looking forward to the next newsletter.

And an Orygun weather note: I saw the first wooly worm today, so fall is on the way, despite the heat!

  3. Welcome to Bloggerland! I enjoyed reading your blog on your website, but I'm glad to see you here. I've found Blogger quite easy to work with. I love how I can make design changes so quickly.
Katherine's new pants pattern is great. I love the seamlines and profile. Very hot!
Thank you for contributing to Sham's blog. You never cease to inspire me!

  4. Marcy,
I like the style of this shirt but I'm really troubled by the fit, at least on the model. Any ideas on how NOT to have folds across the upper chest or along the shoulder blades?

  5. Hi Marcy, thank you so much for getting into the blog world. I have both of the above patterns, and your take on them is very helpful as I look through my stash for the perfect fabrics. I also enjoyed your interview with Shams, any info to get my creativity mojo started is appreciated....Anna

  6. For Danielle's question on fit. The samples made for photography are a standard size 10, the models are super tall and the garments kind-of sort-of have to fit them...if you were making it for yourself, you'd do all the fitting so it would relate to your body. Looks like this model has very broad shoulders which is causing the pull and folds.

  7. Hi Marcy: Loved your interview with Shams and am so jealous that she is going to DOL and I'm not!

I think KT's pants pattern is really cool and I'm very interested to see how it turns out in a stretch woven, so I hope you share. I'm looking forward to seeing your version as well as what other folks post on Pattern Review as I'm not sure how to go about making this style work for my ahem more mature figure. I think of these very narrow pants being more appropriate on a very narrow body type.

    cheers,
    Helen

  8. Hi Marcy,
I love this blog. Interesting you follow Dash and Bella, too!
I love these pants and I wonder what effect the back elasticized stitching line has. No photo of the back even on the pattern website.
