Our niece Georgia Tilton, age 11, took her first long trip away from home in St. Paul, and came for a visit with her Oregon aunties.
Being Tiltons, there had to be some sewing......
We 3 put our heads together and designed and made a dress for Georgia to wear at the family wedding in Aspen next month.
Georgia chose the fabrics: Blue Daisy knit (sold out), for the dress, Aquamarine Mesh for the shrug.
For the patterns: Katherine's tunic T, Vogue 8817. lengthened into a dress, and for the shrug, we used the bolero shrug pattern included in the book Alabama Studio Sewing + Design (our ArtBarn favorite basic we have all been using).
Katherine did the pattern alteration and cutting.
I did the sewing.
Georgia hung out with us in our studios and kibitzed.
Vasco the dog adored her company!
|Sewing tip: To prevent the binding from cupping at the curved edge, I stretched the front edge of the garment while sewing around the curve, but not the binding. Worked beautifully.|
I used the same Alabama Chanin bolero shrug pattern, adapted to my own size, lengthened a bit, and straightened out the front edge. The fabric is our Stinson Mesh. When making different sizes in the pattern, I trace off the original and then make any adjustments.
